2017 Sustainability Awards
Resolute VP awarded for global sustainability leadership
On October 12, 2017, Seth Kursman, our vice president, Corporate Communications, Sustainability and Government Affairs, was named a “Sustainability Hero” in the 2017 Sustainability Awards category by the Business Intelligence Group (BIG), a U.S.-based professional human resource consulting firm servicing diverse industries. BIG’s 2017 Sustainability Awards honor those who have made sustainability an integral part of their business practice. The award acknowledges Seth’s leadership of sustainability for Resolute – and the company’s success in driving performance improvements on a host of key safety, stakeholder and overall sustainability priorities.

2017 Biomass North Awards
Resolute wins industry leadership in the bioeconomy award
On October 11, 2017, Resolute won an award for its Industry Leadership in the Bioeconomy of Northern Ontario. The award was presented during Biomass North Forum 2017 – a two-day gathering in Thunder Bay exploring the challenges and opportunities facing the forest bioeconomy. In recognizing Resolute’s leadership, Biomass North highlighted the company’s investments in its biomass pellet plant in Thunder Bay; its most recent Ontario sawmills; its partnership projects with FPInnovations, CRIBE and Lakehead University; and Resolute’s ground-breaking agreements with seven First Nations in Ontario, which include contracts for biomass-biofuel businesses.

Toundra Greenhouse wins Clean50 Top20 Projects Award honoring clean capitalism

On September 28, 2017, Toundra Greenhouse, in which Resolute holds a 49% equity interest, was named to Canada’s prestigious Clean50 Top20 Projects list for 2018. Toundra Greenhouse was recognized for its success in reducing carbon emissions, while making a broader contribution to society and to the advancement of carbon capture technology. Using land and energy resources from Resolute’s Saint-Félicien pulp mill, the greenhouse produces 45 million cucumbers annually and employs over 100 people in the Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec. Canada’s Clean50 Top20 Projects category recognizes outstanding sustainability or “clean capitalism” projects from across Canada that innovate, inform and inspire Canadians to do more. This is the third time Resolute has been honored by the Clean50 organization.

Resolute receives an honorable mention for sustainability leadership
On September 4, 2017, Resolute’s innovative sustainability strategy received an honorable mention from the DuPont Safety and Sustainability Awards, which recognize outstanding initiatives aimed at enhancing workplace safety, sustainability and operational effectiveness. Highly coveted as the corporate benchmark in sustainability leadership, the international DuPont Awards celebrate the achievements of companies that have found effective, innovative ways of becoming greener, cleaner and leaner. The jury recognized Resolute’s success in reducing its carbon footprint by highlighting our sustainability initiatives, their innovative environmental and energy benefits, as well as their impact on local economic diversification.For more details, read the press release

Best Health, Safety and Environment Program
Resolute wins a gold Stevie® for all of the U.S. and Canada
On August 10, 2017, Resolute was announced as the winner of a gold Stevie by the 2017 International Business Awards (IBAs) for having the best health, safety and environment program of the year for all of the United States and Canada. In selecting Resolute for this high honor, the judges cited the company’s proactive safety management system and ability to balance environmental, social and economic responsibilities. The IBAs are the only international, all-encompassing business awards recognizing outstanding performance in the workplace.
